Launch event just two days away

iLab Launch T1001 (South Building), WSA 4-6pm this Thursday (16 Feb).

iLab launches on Thursday this week at 4pm. Students and staff are invited – we’d love to see you there. Just turn up!

We have talks on prototyping from Luke Thompson of Kin Design and Avril O’Neil from ONN Studio. Both studios have done some amazing interactive projects and ONN have very recent experience with Kickstarter, for Ding their soon to be released smart door bell. The talks will be over by 5pm. Drinks and nibbles will be available throughout.

iLab Launch event announced 16/02/17

The iLab launch event has now been advertised across the school via ‘all-users’ mail – Save the date: 16 February 2017 @ 4pm. More details about the event and Creative Fun With Arduinos – our first-ever Arduino workshop– can be found on the iLab website at this address:

iLab goes self-referential

In a moment of self-referential madness, I’ve hooked up this iLab blog with the iLab Twitter account AND set up a JSON feed using the p5Dom JavaScript library to scrape the most recent blog posts into the News page on the main iLab website. So now, when something gets posted here, it gets tweeted too and an excerpt also appears on the website.

The JSON feed is a bit basic at the moment. The next job will be to look at picking up images for the News page and also to hook up the iLab Lunches blog using JSON too.

Geek joke alert – I am reminded about an entry under R in the dictionary of computing terms. “RECURSION: see recursion.”

Paper prototyping

On Monday MA Communication Design finally got to try out some lo-fi paper prototypes for their musePAD app projects. In the group we simulated a test environment with one student testing their designs, another taking the role of an archetypal user (based on previously created personas) and a third student acting as an observer making notes and video the test session.
